1. Tell us about Vitvom.
Vitvom is a company that finds distinctiveness in the light (colors) of Korean traditional culture and the value of everyday life and draws comfort and inspiration from the values of culture and everyday life.
2. I’m curious about what you focused on with dancheong.
We wanted to encapsulate the most Korean elements in our souvenirs, tying them to the history and cultural contents of Korea. We chose dancheong because we felt that the high-level aesthetics of the dancheong craftsmen and the beauty of dancheong could be sensitively felt in our palace architecture, greatly admired by tourists both domestically and internationally.
3. What was the aspect you focused the most on within the product development process?
Our primary focus was to accurately reproduce a beautiful color scheme and a variety of dancheong patterns based on the five colors of obangsaek, which are blue, red, yellow, white, and black. We also made a special effort to produce it in a three-dimensional form and to select the material for the product. We hope that the “Light Infused with Soul Dancheong, Engraved with Hangeul” becomes a special gift to share memories of special travels and valuable experiences.
4. Were there any challenges in planning the award-winning work?
The Light Infused with Soul Dancheong, Engraved with Hangeul is based on the five colors of blue, red, yellow, white, and black, and the beautiful colors of our dancheong as well as the variety of dancheong doors are realistic representations of the original palace architecture (Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace). Special efforts were also made in the three-dimensional product design and in selecting materials suitable for hangeul engraving
5. What did you learn from the contest, and do you have any stories you’d like to share?
In the process of planning, refining, and improving the product from an idea, there were many moments when I felt burdened and responsible as a creator who represents the image of Korea. The judges’ diverse questions on product development and production, distribution, and marketing during the third round of face-to-face judging helped us to refine our product. Post-awarding, expert consulting on branding and product expansion was also beneficial.
6. What are your future plans?
We plan to apply a variety of dancheong patterns and use more beautiful Korean words in our customized hangeul-engraved stamps. We want to make our product more scalable in both online and offline sales channels and pursue B2B sales
