1. Tell us about Dadi Studio.
Dadi Studio is a brand with a broad design spectrum. We showcase various styles, from traditional Korean design to stylish illustrations, and we plan to showcase products that highlight the beauty of Korea through diverse designs that bridge tradition and modernity.
2. What inspired you in developing the Dancheong keycaps and keyboard?
Since my The development of this product stemmed from the desire to create the most Korean style keyboard. While there are already various Dancheong themed souvenirs, I wanted to create a product that incorporates traditional Dancheong patterns into a modern keyboard, allowing people to experience the beauty of Korea in a new way in their everyday lives.
3. What aspect did you focus on the most during product development?
The main focus was to capture the beauty of Dancheong as authentically as possible. I tried not to overlook the small details and color nuances, aiming to convey the essence of traditional beauty. Additionally, to express the beauty of Hangul on the keycaps, I incorporated the calligraphy works of artist Jo Hee-goo. Special attention was given to the color arrangement to ensure that all 104 keys harmoniously blended together, which involved going through numerous design drafts to enhance the overall quality.
4. Since this is product is first of its kind, there must have been challenges during the production process.
The most challenging aspect was accurately replicating the colors of Dancheong. Due to the nature of the ‘sublimation transfer’ method, I could confirm the colors only after the product was completed, leading to many trial and error attempts to achieve the desired hues. Additionally, because the product is printed on PBT material, there was a risk of blurring or loss of detail depending on the production time. Extensive testing was conducted to meticulously express even the smallest lines of Dancheong.
5. What was the most impressive moment during the contest?
Meeting various people who create wonderful products that promote Korea was the most memorable to me. I was able to form connections by directly talking to people and communicating through social media. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity provided by this contest to build valuable relationships and promote our products, and I hope such opportunities continue in the future.
6. What are your future plans and goals.
Moving forward, I plan to focus on creating products that can promote the beauty of Korea. I will incorporate Korean aesthetics into unexpected products, like keyboards, presenting unique designs that harmonize the traditional with the modern. In addition to Dancheong, I am conceptualizing new products that utilize other forms of traditional Korean art. Through products that are both familiar and special, I aim to share the charm of Korean culture with a wider audience.
