1. Tell us about Guraedo Farm.
Guraedo Farm is specialized in organic farming since 1983. The name was inspired by the words my parents would repeat during challenging times of immense labor, waiting, and loneliness such as ‘guraedo (still) need to try’, ‘guraedo, what can we do’, or ‘guraedo, we cannot do that’.
2. What inspired you to create Tomarrow Spicy Tomato Jam?
To improve agricultural yield and efficiency, we primarily grow hybrid varieties that use only the first generation of crops, regardless of the region. While native varieties are disappearing and regional characteristics are being lost, Guraedo Farm continues to cultivate heirloom (pure) tomatoes by maintaining our own seeds. This is to produce tomatoes that capture the unique natural characteristics of Yeongwol, Gangwon-do.
3. What aspects did you focus on the most while making the product?
We conducted extensive R&D over a long period to determine the right ratio for blending heirloom organic tomatoes, which have been cultivated from seeds passed down through generations. We added spicy chili and lemon to create a jam that has a slight kick but offers a clean and subtle freshness. We also paid great attention to the package design.
4. What challenges did you face during the production process?
Tomatoes are more challenging to store compared to other crops. When refrigerated, the distinctive aroma of tomatoes may fade or result in off-flavors. Because we do not have our own factory, we had to produce in local public rental processing facilities, which often made it difficult to carry out production based on the schedule we wanted.
5. What was the most memorable moment during the contest?
I remember the moment I shouted "Eureka!" when I tasted the most ideal balance after conducting over 40 sensory tests of the tomato jam.
6. What are Guraedo Farm's plans and goals for the future?
Through the brand name "Tomarrow," a combination of the word "tomorrow," symbolizing sustainability, and "tomato," representing various types of tomatoes, we want to become an alternative for consumers who feel the thirst for new rural tourism. By introducing innovative rural content that incorporates diverse varieties and designs, we aim to creatively address agricultural issues. Additionally, we plan to establish a specialized agriculture library (Farming Library) and a soil exhibition hall (Soil Gallery) to convey the importance of soil, building consensus and encouraging active participation in sustainable agriculture.
