1. What kind of company is OURS?
OURS was established in 2019 with the mission of showcasing designs that can serve as souvenirs (OUR Souvenir). Based on a strong interest in local graphic souvenirs, we launched the 'Seoul Sticker Shop' brand and have been operating it for five years, featuring a lineup of 50 local artists and informing many tourists about the value of new souvenirs.
2. Was there a special reason for developing the 'Tin Case Sticker Pack'?
In the second quarter of 2023, as the impact COVID-19 gradually diminished, the number of tourists visiting Korea began to recover. At this time, operating our offline store 'Seoul Sticker Shop' in Samcheong-dong — one of the most Korean of locations — we aimed to create souvenirs themed around the diverse landscapes and daily life of Seoul that are easily purchasable, considering the characteristics of both domestic and international tourists visiting our store.
3. What aspect did you focus on the most while developing the product?
Stickers are relatively inexpensive and small, making them one of the most preferred souvenir items among tourists. However, stickers lack volume. Therefore, we wanted to enhance the volume by packaging them in a tin case and to ensure that even after using the stickers, customers could continue to use the case which would evoke memories of Korea and Seoul.
4. Were there any challenges during the production process?
In fact, selecting image themes that represent Seoul was more challenging than the drawing itself. We wanted to create artwork unique to the Seoul Sticker Shop that would stand out from the numerous already-released Seoul souvenirs. To address this, we collaborated with our director, who is also a designer and artist, to create images that reflect his personal style.
5. What was the most memorable moment during the contest?
Internally, there was an opinion that stickers may be a too ordinary item to submit to a competition. However, since stickers are sold in every souvenir shop, I felt that if the sticker had original graphics different from typical souvenirs, tourists would recognize the difference. I remember the moment during the final evalutaion when the judges actually liked the product and offered suggestions for improvement.
6. What are your future plans?
The Seoul Sticker Shop is a brand born out of interest in the local. Our next plan is to diversify by combining with local cultures of other regions. Currently, we are collaborating with local businesses to add various versions, such as Busan, Gwangju, and Gangneung sticker shops. Our goal is to gradually enhance the appeal of souvenirs from across the country while simultaneously establishing ourselves as a unique, original souvenir brand that will one day create international versions.
