1. We heard ‘Acrobat’ was developed by the designer group SNJ.

SNJ is a group of board game creators dedicated to developing creative games. Creators with different unique personalities and experiences, collaborate to produce a wide range of works, from popular games to those that reinterpret traditional culture. They handle everything from planning, design, and publishing, aiming to deliver new fun and excitement to people.

2. The traditional elements in this board game are intriguing; could you tell us more about ‘Acrobat’?

‘Acrobat’ is a board game themed around Korea’s traditional tightrope walking. Inspired by the traditional performances of tightrope walkers and jesters showcasing various skills and songs, it was developed to promote this cultural heritage registered as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011. It is a simple card game for 2 to 5 players, featuring a unique mechanism where the power of the suits changes as the tightrope walker performs.

3. What aspect do you focus on the most when developing these boardgames?

The primary focus during product development was designing a mechanism that the public could easily become familiar with. We also aimed to eliminate language barriers for foreign visitors, allowing them to enjoy the game effortlessly through intuitive design and icons. Our goal was to create a board game that everyone can enjoy.

4.Creating a game does not seem like an easy process.

The most challenging aspect of the production process was maintaining familiar elements while establishing a unique identity for our game. Designing the unique mechanism of changing suit powers took a considerable amount of time. Finding the optimal balance through various testing and feedback was a significant challenge, but it greatly contributed to the game’s overall quality.

5. What was the most memorable moment during the contest?

I remember the time we spent searching for various designs to capture the beauty of Korea. Exploring designs that harmoniously blend traditional elements with the modern provided an opportunity to rediscover Korea's unique and beautiful aesthetics. This process inspired us to enrich and refine the visual identity of ‘Acrobat’ which allowed us to successfully complete this meaningful project.

6. Do you plan to continue working on similar projects?

We plan on developing more board games that can promote Korea's traditional culture to a wider audience. Specifically, alike ‘Acrobat’, we want to come up with games that combine traditional elements with modern fun elements. Furthermore, we hope to release games that explore various cultures and themes, creating opportunities to showcase the beauty of Korea in the global market.
